Pease pudding and boiled bacon/ ham
Do you have any memories of this?

use to have it for dinner seemingly every other week as a kid, but even my old dear has given up on it now.

Was wondering as was down Chrisp street again today. Didnt got to Ivy's, who does pease pudding, saveloys and faggots. Went to the Curry Pot next door and had a cracking Biryani in the autumn sun.

Used to have boiled gammon (are you allowed to use that word these days?) mash and parsley sauce. Lovely.

Pease pudding is basically just split peas, it is natural food so regardless how it tastes it's hardly muck.

Bacon Pudding was my favourite back in the dark days of food. Thank fuck we've moved on from boiled veg and overcooked slabs of meat.

My mum used to make this terrible dish when i was a kid living at home but thankfully redeemed herself in the summer by swapping the pease pudding etc out for savoury rice, salad, FRESH new potatoes and pickles (i particularly like red cabbage with it).

Fucking lovely when the bacon was cooked to perfection, and quite light.

I'm guessing that nostalgia masks the horror of what this food was actually like...

My parents are from Portugal/Spain but have been here 50 years. They were poor but I never had to eat shite. I have always loved fish and chips, roast beef with all the trimmings, fry-ups but there was some grim stuff which should remain history.

Jellied Eels, Saveloys, Spam Fritters and Pickled Eggs etc have never been good...School Dinners were a nightmare for me - I just couldn't eat the stuff!

Boiled bacon?

We always had our pease pudding with salt beef. Magical when you were 9.

Goblin meat puddings in a tin were a different class of food as well

That would be difficult as I don't eat it because I'm not a 50 year old fat peasant.

This is the sort of shit people ate before more sophisticated foreign dishes were commonplace. The only people that eat this kind of shit now are eastern Europeans. I expect all you Brexiters will all eschew that foreign muck and go back to eating boiled lumps of meat next year yes?

I remember my dear old mum, God rest her soul, cooking it for us one evening and forgetting to pierce the tin before she stood it in boiling water.

The IRA would have been proud of that explosion......
